Packaging and Transport Optimisation

12 May 2023

The transport you use to move your goods from A to B is incredibly important and it’s also important to consider how your packaging supports this.

Have you ever thought about:
• The amount of air that you ship
• The amount of wasted vehicle space there is
• Whether there is a way that product could be packed, palletised, and shipped that is more efficient in terms of space, cost, or material; or a combination of all three?
If these thoughts have crossed your mind, then it’s probably time to undertake a packaging audit so ensure your packaging and your transport are optimised.

But how would we do this?

Simply, there are three key points to consider, although these are by no means exhaustive.

• How does your product sit within its individual pack, and in a case or pallet? If the individual pack could be redesigned to enhance the use of material, reduce damage, or simply be able to fit more product onto a pallet, then this could have an impact on transport costs and efficiencies.
• How does it support the supply chain? If you have your own warehouse facility, or use a third-party logistics provider, it’s important that product is easily located, can be stacked on pallets without incurring damage and can be moved to warehouse to vehicle and vice versa with ease.
• Do you currently use materials that could be replaced with corrugated, perhaps reducing weight and/or size of the pack as well as elevating your sustainability goals and deliverables?

Stacey Austin, Regional Managing Director, Boxes and Packaging commented; “Our teams are skilled at creating packaging solutions that support all elements of the supply chain, and ensuring the transport element of this is optimised is just one part where we deliver great success for our customers.

“The versatility and flexibility of corrugated as a packaging material is often under-appreciated and our award-winning designers can tackle the most complicated of challenges and often find a solution that brings added value and benefits.”
