International Women’s Day and careers in packaging

08 Mar 2022

Over 500 people work for Boxes and Packaging, and we have lots of female team members who work in a variety of role ranging from production operators to Managing Directors.

With so many career opportunities available for everyone, we take a look at some of the roles held by females, and what an integral part of our business they are.

Our factories are busy places and require a diverse skill set to ensure all parts of our business run smoothly.

Denise Langton has worked for our Doncaster site for several years and is now an integral part of the team at the Yorkshire distribution centre. Denise knows all elements of what keeps this busy site operationally efficient and is now a FLT (reach and counterbalance) driver, supporting the order picking and stock management for one of our biggest customers.

Denise is the only female who works in the warehouse, just as Mia is the only female production operator at our Bredbury site, in Manchester.

Mia moved to the UK from Poland in 2012 and joined the B&P team in 2017. A highly experienced die cutter, Mia also provides training for new colleagues and has other skills which allow her to support colleagues in their roles too. Being the only female in a team has its advantages, as it means she get the ladies facilities all to herself!

Also in our Manchester site is Elaine Hall and Joanne Roberts who have over 50 years’ service between them! This means that they are both extremely experienced and having worked in many production-based roles in that time, they now hold the positions of Production Planner and Production Supervisor respectively.

Our Dumbarton site has a great complement of female team members too and is headed up by the groups only female MD, Jennifer Riddell. Jennifer is also MD of our other Scottish based business, Boxshop.

In the Dumbarton team we have Linda Marrs who works as a production planner having been with the company for over 24 years, and Zoe Robertson, who works in sales and has been there for 25 years! Angela Howell, works in the busy accounts department and Yvonne Murray, sales advisor, who joined the team a couple of years ago, is also the Health and Wellbeing ambassador for our Dumbarton site.

A more recent addition to the team is Charlotte Easby, who joined the business last summer. As Commercial and Customers Services Manager for one of our sites that has a turnover of over £12m, it’s a demanding, fast paced role. And, when Charlotte joined the team, she knew nothing about corrugated packaging, proving that anything is possible!

Working closely with Charlotte is Doncaster’s Finance Manager, Karen Wagstaff. Karen has been in her role since 2017 and has nearly 30 years’ experience in the finance sector.

Jennifer commented; “It’s great to see ladies holding so many diverse roles in our business and to have a great mix of longevity and experience, with new talent.

“As Boxes and Packaging continues to grow and expand, we hope to be able to encourage more young people generally into the business, in both production and administrative roles, to be able to mentor and teach the next generation who will steer Boxes and Packaging, and the Logson Group into the future.”
