Our Birmingham team recently made a donation of corrugated board to the Arts Faculty at Coventry University for an exciting project.
Forming part of the British Art Show, which comes to Coventry in October 2026, a thousand art and design students from the university were invited to contribute to a shared cardboard sculpture that reflects the creative energy of our community.
To assist the students, a range of corrugated board grades was supplied so they could develop their ideas ahead of the main show installation - a large collaborative sculpture project made entirely from cardboard.
Dr Alex Frost [FHEA, PhD, MFA, BA hons], Assistant Professor - Fine Art School of Arts and Creative Industries, College of the Arts and Society, Coventry University commented; “The cardboard workshop went really well. Having clean, large sheets of cardboard to work with was a real treat, and the students were buzzing about it all week.
“We followed the cardboard letter-making session with a projection-mapping workshop, where students experimented with projecting video onto the shapes in different configurations.
“The kind donation of corrugated board from Boxes and Packaging (Birmingham) allowed us to bring this project to life.”
The project functions as an early rehearsal for interdisciplinary working, public-facing installation, and collaborative making at scale, while also contributing to the wider visibility of BAS10 within the city and the University.
The British Art Show is a major exhibition held every five years, offering an overview of contemporary art produced in the UK. BAS10 will open in Coventry, hosted across the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Mead Gallery (Warwick Arts Centre) and Coventry University, before touring to Swansea, Bristol, Sheffield and Newcastle Gateshead.
BAS10 is curated by Ekow Eshun as part of the Hayward Gallery Touring programme.
Alongside the main exhibition, Arts Council funding is being sought for a programme of fringe events, fellowships and workshops involving artists, curators and young people, including newly commissioned works in each host city.
