Women who work in Packaging

With National Careers Week being well underway and International Women’s Day taking place today; we took five minutes to catch up with one of our longest serving women employees.

Zoe Robertson, has been an integral part of the team and Boxes and Packaging (Dumbarton) for over 26 years and has worked across a variety of roles, most recently in internal sales.

“The industry has changed quite significantly in that time, and I’ve seen lots of changes, particularly relating to the influence that technology has had on how we operate,” said Zoe. “Naturally, there has been lots of personnel changes during that time too and within that, there has more women join the industry, including our Managing Director, Jennifer, who joined the business a couple of years ago.”

Jennifer, who also manages the groups Boxshop site in East Kilbride, is the first and only woman MD in the group but has several women in her team. In addition, to Zoe’s long career with the business, the Head of Operations at Boxshop, has also been part of the industry, and that particular business, for over thirty years.

Zoe continued; “It’s been a really refreshing change to have Jennifer as our mentor and leader and show that you can be good at your job, be a good mum and be supportive to your team,” said Zoe. “It’s not about having it all, it’s about shaping what you want to do and being good at it, and it’s great to see more and more woman doing exactly that.”

Around 30% of the B&P (Dumbarton) team are woman with roles in production, finance, design, administration, and management.

Jennifer concluded; “Packaging has always been an industry with far fewer woman employees than men, but it’s very pleasing to see more women having the skill set to make a difference.

“With people like Zoe and myself bringing a range of skills, we look forwarding to mentoring more women as they join our teams in the future.”
