Made in Swindon

20 Jul 2020

Our Swindon site is a little bit special for the Boxes and Packaging group. Established in April 1988, it’s the original Boxes and Packaging and was the first acquisition by the Logson Group in 2004.

Since then there have been several acquisitions to grow the group to a 12-site operation stretching from Dumbarton in the North to Bristol in the South.

Our Swindon operations no longer occupy the original site; the team moved to their fourth and current building in 2015 and now all their production and administrative functions are carried out from a 57,000 sq ft building on the outskirts of the town, nestled between the Cotswolds and North Wessex Downs and close to the M4.

It’s current turnover of £7m is achieved by a team of 41 people all who live in the local area with many of them having enjoyed many years with the company, not least the site Managing Director Paul Fishlock, who has been there for over 30 years.

“There have been some great times at B&P Swindon and it’s great to be able to see how the company has grown and how times have changed,” said Paul. “Pulling together some information for this news piece made me smile as our younger employees couldn’t understand how we could have possibly worked without computers, computer aided design and digitally programmed machines and yet we did! It’s been great taking a trip down memory lane and remembering the times with our original owner, Shearer Sellars.”

Now the factory is equipped with all the modern technology you would come to expect to perform its design, admin, accounting, stock control and production functions.

A Dong Fang 3.2m, two colour printer is complemented by a Klett printer, Maramatsu die cutter, Rapidex stitcher, large scale Box King and a host of other gluing and stitching machines to finish goods prior to despatch.

This gives the team the capabilities to work with a wide range of customers to facilitate bespoke packaging solutions, standard FEFCO boxes, Point of Sale and Shelf ready packs – in fact just about anything that can be manufactured from corrugated. These capabilities are supported by an experienced design team who work with the latest software and CAD cutting tables to create innovative designs and samples for customers.

The experienced team understand the capabilities of corrugated and how it can provide a huge range of sustainable and innovative solutions to customers from a variety of market sectors including automotive, pharmaceutical, food and drink, agriculture and household goods. It also supports a number of customers with stock and serve options to facilitate efficient supply chains and line side packing requirements.

“Boxes and Packaging (Swindon) is the oldest, yet the newest B&P site, and I’m proud to have seen its progression and be at the helm as it continues to provide quality corrugated solutions and support employment in the local community,” said Paul. “We’re looking forward to carrying on the good work and to increasing turnover over the coming years so that Boxes and Packaging (Swindon) can go from strength to strength and add even more years to its history.”
