This re-design project by a new customer had to be made from less pieces (the previous design had four) and be quicker to assemble. The design needed to provide six cells in the tray to separate packets of spice mixes. It was to have a one colour flood coat print.
This design is constructed from one piece of board, a 150w/t-e. which when folded creates the tray and the divisions from the die cut design. Usually, a tray and dividers would be two separate pieces of board put together, but this design is all on one piece.
Multiple parts have been reduced; one piece of board provides the same results as the original whilst still providing 6 compartments within the tray. The design allows for a quicker packing process even considering the longer assembly time for the pack.
Reverse folds mean all visible parts of the design show the printed board which was very important to the customer, and the design ensured that we don’t need to print both sides saving costs on ink and being more time efficient.
This new design has streamlined the packing process for the customer saving them time and resulting in less damages to the packets of spices being packed. The end user experienced has been enhanced as the spice sachets are now safely contained in the tray and solid board outer avoiding damage. It has showcased how trays with internal fittings can be made from a single piece of board rather than a typical two piece, or in this case four pieces.
Additionally, manufacturing time has been reduced whilst achieving all the objectives outline by the customer.
Furthermore, the pack is made from a board that has 66% recycled content, is FSC certified and is fully recyclable through normal domestic household recycling channels making it a sustainable choice for our customer and the end user customer.
