Investing in good design
23 Aug 2024
Good product design is key to positive usability experiences.
Some of the most popular brands are renowned because of the simplicity of using their products. Others are renowned for the exact opposite.
But in a busy world, having a product that is fit for purpose and meets, if not exceeds customer expectations, is so important. This is where good design comes in.
And this is the same in corrugated packaging. Innovative design is vital in many of the solutions we create to ensure packaging is created that meets customer demands, protects products and promotes brand.
Here’s how our customers benefit from our award-winning designers, creativity, experience and latest CAD technology.
Experience and knowledge
Perhaps one of the biggest advantages we have at all our Boxes and Packaging sites across the UK is the experience and knowledge we have of the industry, our raw materials, and how corrugated packaging works within retail and supply chain environments.
This experience and knowledge have meant that, over the years, our teams have won many awards for the designs they have created, historically at Starpack Awards and at the annual ongoing UK Packaging Awards. Indeed, our teams have been shortlisted four times in the 2024 awards due to be announced on Thursday 10th October.
The experience and knowledge of our team is supported by the latest CAD software and DYSS cutting tables many of which have been recently invested in.
This ensures designs and samples are made available to customers with ease.
Design process created with the customer in mind
All our packaging solutions are designed to meet customer briefs.
No matter how complex the product, how complex the supply chain requirements or how complex the range required our teams apply their innovative design flair to each project.
A clear understanding of how corrugated board types perform, how designs work, manufacturing and printing procedures and customer and end user experiences are all considered during the design process.
A thorough sampling service is part of the customer experience, and a range of testing options are available (drop tests, compression test and industry specific tests) should they be required.
In addition to the constructional design, Boxes and Packaging offers a huge range of print finishes from simple one colour to the six colour high quality print giving customers a vast number of options to ensure brand and product information is correctly represented.
Benefits of bespoke designed packaging
Packaging that is designed specifically to customer requirements, rather than being an off the shelf solution can:
• Offer superior product protection through a combination of made to measure outer box and inner fittings and dividers
• Bring cost savings as material is used more efficiently and the need for additional void fill can be removed
• Promote your brand through the use of print and positive customer engagement and unboxing
• Support the supply chain by providing product information, information for warehousing and loading
• Deliver transport efficiencies by ensuring products are packaged efficiently
Stephen Ward, Northern Region Supply Chain Designer commented; “Some customers benefit from us being able to supply standard FEFCO boxes with bespoke print and in high volumes, however many of our customers choose us because we can supply them with bespoke solutions.
“In recent years, some of these bespoke solutions have been to remove single use, or hard to recycle materials from their packaging solutions and many are often amazed at the designs we create entirely from corrugated. This supports our customers to meet their recycling and sustainability targets as part of their ESG policies and over-arching aims.”
