Doncaster team launch packaging project with students

09 Jun 2021

The team at Doncaster has been working closely with the town’s University Technical College (UTC) which opened its doors almost a year ago to provide a Year 9 – 13 education with an emphasis on engineering, creative and digital.

In the latest collaboration, Year 9 students have been given a packaging project which requires them to design a paper based take away food carton whilst taking into account a number of design and business considerations, including consumer requirements, material usage and costs.

Stacey Austin, Regional Managing Director for the Northern area of Boxes and Packaging, and Governor at the UTC, visited the college to deliver the brief and to chat to the students about packaging design and the wider industry.

Further visits will take place during the project to support the students and offer advice and encouragement. The final judging and assessment process is to take place just before the end of the summer term.

Stacey commented; “It’s great to be invited to host a project for the students and show just a small, everyday element of our business. It also helps the students to understand the design process, and why a good design is so important in the manufacturing process to ensure it is fit for purpose, and cost, material and time efficient to manufacture. It will be a great project for them to work on and give them a great understanding of how to approach such projects in the future.”
