The ‘Beauty’ of Sustainable Packaging

06 May 2021

There has been much media coverage of late regarding the food and drink industries and how they are striving to make their packaging more sustainable.

But they’re not the only industry that is making great leaps forward in terms of sustainable packaging – the beauty industry has some amazing shining examples of how to do it right. Many are choosing new ways of doing things; Wildsmith Skin are using Micellium bottles made from mushrooms and completely compostable. Source by L’Oreal Professional have made their shampoo bottles square, meaning they nestle together without any space when dispatching boxes to salons. Nobody said it had to be complicated to make just a bit of a difference.

Paper based containers

Perhaps most interesting for us in the paper based sector is the alternative solutions to single use plastic for their product containers – La Roche Posay used a cardboard tube for its Anthelios sunscreen range and many other manufactures have ambitious sustainability goals where paper-based packaging is bound to be a factor.

With consumers making choices based on the sustainability of both the product itself and the way it’s packaged, we expect more to follow suit in the very near future, especially as global brands are showing how it can be done.

Luxury and transit packaging

It’s all adding up to a rather great success and we are please to support a number of key beauty and cosmetic brands with the design and manufacture of their luxury outer packaging and also their transit packaging through the supply chain and distribution channels.

Our luxury packaging solutions are perfect for gift sets and an amazing unboxing experience; similarly, our transit packaging can provide a great unboxing experience through ecommerce channels and we’ve created some amazing products making full use of design, material, branding and print.

And for all those retail solutions we have decades of experience in creating some of the most eye-catching point-of-sale and retail ready countertop and free-standing display units to market product in a variety of retail settings.

Colleagues in the industry are making pioneering developments with paper-based bottles, tubes, jars and more and we are proud to re-enforce this by providing similarly sustainable products for all other packaging requirements. Through innovation and design, we can ensure that the ethos of the brand is well replicated, designs are material efficient, the boxes are easy to fill, seal and open and that they are entirely fit for purpose.

Where consumers are the primary focus, we create packaging solutions that offer a positive consumer experience (that products arrive intact, undamaged and that a positive unboxing experience is delivered), that the products can easily be recycled through domestic recycling channels and that the end user feels that the company is committed to choosing sustainable packaging.

Overall, the beauty of paper-based packaging is easy to appreciate, and our teams can help many businesses achieve their sustainability goals through a packaging audit.
