Made at Boxshop

11 Feb 2021

Boxshop is part of the Boxes and Packaging brand within the Logson Group and is based in East Kilbride, Scotland, to the south of Glasgow.

It commands a significant presence in the packaging industry north of the border and works with many businesses across a variety of sectors providing conventional FEFCO boxes to luxury packaging and display solutions.

The Boxshop was established in 1986 by former owner Douglas Lamb who was joined by co-owner David Protheroe the following year. The business enjoyed a significant period of growth over subsequent years including the acquisition of another independent packaging company in 2007 which doubled its turnover to £12m. It was acquired by Logson Group in 2016. Now the business operates from 100,000 sq ft of both manufacturing and finished goods, with a distribution hub in Aberdeen to provide stock and serve deliveries to customers in the North East of Scotland.

The business has a real family ethos, indeed many of its 115 employees are from the local community with a number of employees from the same family. In addition, the majority of the team have a wealth of experience having been with Boxshop for over 15 years and with many in excess of 25 years.

Amazingly, the first person to be employed by Boxshop back in 1986, Craig Smith, is still with the business today. He is now a Key Account Manager but has worked in most areas of the business as it has grown over the years giving him a fantastic range of skills and knowledge of both the business and the industry.

Practically the site has a range of box making machinery ranging from high speed casemakers, printers, die cutters, multi-point gluers, stitchers and two on-site ink kitchens to ensure exact colour matching for all print requirements.
Whilst the team operate across a variety of industry sectors and manufactures all types of corrugated packaging, it has particular strength in the food and drink sector with over 50% of its business from there, particularly SRP. Stock and serve accounts also form a significant part of its business operations and it operates from a hygiene approved facility equipped with real time stock management technology.
To give an idea of scale of the operation at Boxshop in 2020 it converted 24.4 million sq metres of board, delivered on 72,107 pallets to 482 customers.

Jennifer Riddell-Dillet, Managing Director commented; “In the next five years we aim to maintain our current position as a market leader for the manufacture and stock and serve of high-quality packaging across Scotland. As part of our ongoing growth and market position we look forward to increased diversification into the growing ecommerce sector and to continuing to work with a wider variety of businesses who seek the sustainable and environmental benefits that corrugated packaging solutions bring.”

A new website showcasing its business activities and capabilities will be launched in the coming weeks and can be found at www.boxshop.com
