Every step counts

13 Jan 2021

Even during tiers and lockdowns our charity fundraising has continued with one member of the team taking a massive 850,839 steps to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.

Emma Edwards, Administration Manager, Boxes and Packaging (Birmingham) saw the challenge last summer and decided to embark upon it to raise money for a cause close to her heart and to get fitter as the pandemic rumbled on. Step up for Dementia challenged its participants to take 850,000 steps during the last three months of 2020.

“I saw the campaign advertised and thought that it would be a great personal challenge that I could do from my own front door and work around my job and young family,” said Emma. “I’ve really enjoyed it and feel a great sense of achievement, even though it was tough at times with the dark, cold nights and lockdown fatigue.”

Towards the end of the challenge Emma contracted Covid-19 which saw her out of action for a few days, but she powered on and completed the challenge on New Years’ Eve with one day to spare, raising a massive £650 which will be charity matched by our parent company.

Peter Gosling, Managing Director, Boxes and Packaging (Birmingham) commented; “Emma has really dug deep and battled on through awful weather, illness and latterly snow and ice which enveloped the hills around where she lives. We are all very proud of her and I hope that other members of the wider Boxes and Packaging team will take on their own personal challenges for 2021 and raise money for charities, many of whom are in desperate need of support.”

Many of the major charities have events planned that can either be undertaken individually during the pandemic or have group events which they hope will be able to go ahead later in the year. Just visit their websites to find out all the details.
