Made in Doncaster
14 Dec 2020
There has been a corrugated packaging company on the Doncaster site for a little over 43 years, however, it became part of Boxes and Packaging relatively recently in its history, in 2006.
It opened its doors 1977 and operated under a number of ownerships including the MY Group, Corpack and an independent Management Buy Out until it was acquired by the Logson Group.
Latterly, it acquired its own 55,000 sq ft distribution centre just a couple of junctions down the M18 to facilitate many of the end-to-end stock and serve solutions that it is renowned for. It also operates an ‘in-plant’ facility at one of its key customers delivering a unique solution.
The Doncaster team is headed up by Managing Director, Stuart Clarke, who moved from the Birmingham site a few years ago. Many of its 85 staff have been there over five years bringing a detailed knowledge of the industry from both a production and administrative aspect; indeed, at least 20 are into their third decade of working at the same site, under the different owners. Furthermore, the business is proud to have been a stable employer in the local community for many years.
Offering a wide range of packaging solutions the Doncaster team is proud to work with many of the major supermarket brands, household, FMCG, sanitary ware, furniture and several brands across the automotive sector, both OEM’s and consumables, for the domestic and professional market. It is also certified to supply UN boxes for chemicals and dangerous goods and works closely with many companies to ensure safe transit of product both in the UK and across the globe.
Product is manufactured at the Doncaster site, with Thorne offering storage, assembly and order picking for customers. A machinery portfolio at Doncaster enables the site to offer flexo printing, Bobst flat bed die-cutting from both single and double wall material, including heavy duty board options and a range of of finishing equipment too. It’s latest acquisition was a brand new Dong Fang a little over two years ago. The Doncaster site is especially popular with customers for the stock and serve offering as well as assembly work.
In addition, like all Boxes and Packaging sites, the Doncaster team work with sister sites who have other capabilities to ensure that all customer requirements are achieved.
An experienced onsite design team work to assist customers in effective packaging solutions and they are supported by additional designers across the Northern region and a group supply chain designer which gives a diverse range of capabilities and knowledge.
“Boxes and Packaging (Doncaster) has enjoyed great longevity in the corrugated industry and today is proud to be part of the Boxes and Packaging and wider Logson Group,” said Stuart Clarke, Managing Director, Boxes and Packaging (Doncaster). “We have a great team that bring so much experience to enable us to deliver professional, creative and fit for purpose solutions for our customers and this has become especially apparent in recent months as the demand for paper based packaging is at an all-time high.”
The Doncaster team supports customers across Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Humberside and as far North as Northumbria with everything from standard FEFCO boxes, but also includes bespoke solutions that are tailored to individual customer requirements.
“We expect 2021 to see an increase in demand as consumers continue to shop online and a further raft of businesses seek new ways of packaging products to eliminate hard to recycle materials from their supply chains,” said Stuart. “The versatility and capabilities of corrugated continue to be discovered by many and we look forward to helping more customers achieve packaging supplies that are truly circular.”
