Doncaster team host charity football match

15 Sep 2020

There has been an amazing display of team spirit at our Doncaster site recently after several members of staff took part in a charity football match to raise money for the British Heart Foundation after one of their colleagues lost her son last month to an undiagnosed heart condition.

Over 35 members of staff took to the pitch at some point during the game, and the teams were well supported from the touchline as other team members, families and friends joined in the event which was organised by the sites H&S Officer, Tony Hatton.

“Thanks go to all my colleagues who gave up their time, donated raffle prizes and bought tickets so that as a team we could try and do something positive,” said Tony. “It was great to see such team spirit, rivalry and support both on the pitch and from the touchlines as Team Doncaster and Team Thorne battled it out in the September sunshine!”

Team Doncaster claimed the winner’s trophy winning 4 – 2 after a game where everyone gave it there all and where many realised, they had given up playing football for a reason! An amazing £2220 was raised for British Heart Foundation which will be matched by the group company as part of its charity matching scheme.

Stuart Clarke, Managing Director, Doncaster commented; “Tony organised a great event and the team rallied round to make sure we had enough players, kit, a venue and plenty of raffle prizes in just a few short weeks, even with the challenges of social distancing to ensure the event was Covid secure. My warmest thanks go to all the team who have shown a level of support to their colleague and her family that is humbling and for which they should all be very proud.”
