The Boxes and Packaging group acquired its dual site Manchester facilities in 2005, just a few months after the Logson Group was founded. It comprises a 40,000 sq ft facility in Bolton and 25,000 sq ft in Bredbury.
It’s incumbent Managing Director retired in 2008 and was succeeded by Gary Hargreaves. Gary remained at the helm of the business until his retirement just a few weeks ago. Under his guidance, the business achieved significant growth carving a superb reputation for itself across the North West. The Manchester team is now headed up by Managing Director Paul Gavin who joined the business at the beginning of 2020 and who has already made a positive impact on the day to day operations of the business as well as developing the long-term strategy.
Whilst it works across all corrugated disciplines, it has also become known for the high-quality Shelf Ready Packaging (SRP) and Point of Sale (POS) work that it does for a variety of customers in many sectors. The team are proud to work with brands that supply all the major supermarkets, household names within the cycle and leisure industry and supports a wide range of online retailers both large and small. Specialist areas include working with chemical companies who distribute their products across the world, and several brands across the automotive sector, both OEM’s and consumables, for both the domestic and professional market.
There are almost 60 employees at the Manchester sites with many of the skilled workforce living and working in the local communities.
Product is manufactured at both sites and there is an enviable machine portfolio to meet customer needs ranging from flexo printing, to Bobst flat-bed die cutting for smaller packs, to larger conventional die cutters capable of handling board up to 2.8m in size or through the Box King which can handle board up to 6m long. The Manchester sites convert single-wall, double-wall and triple-wall board and have the ability to glue or stitch as required.
In addition, like all Boxes and Packaging sites, the Manchester team work with sister sites who have other capabilities to ensure that all customer requirements are achieved.
An experienced onsite design team work to assist customers in effective packaging solutions and they are supported by additional designers across the Northern region and a group supply chain designer which gives a diverse range of capabilities and knowledge.
The sites also work with an ink supplier capable of supplying natural based, renewable and sustainable inks to the on-site Manchester ink kitchen.
“Boxes and Packaging (Manchester) is a fantastic place to work and there is a great team that are hugely proficient in what they do,” said Paul Gavin Managing Director Boxes and Packaging (Manchester). “They have a wide skill set and this combined with their experience – many of the team have worked at the site for several years – ensures we display great efficiencies and knowledge to provide superb packaging solutions to a diverse range of customers.”
With clearly defined business goals for the coming years the Manchester team continues to support customers across the North West, generally within a 60-mile radius of the site. This can range from standard FEFCO boxes, but also includes bespoke solutions that are tailored to individual customer requirements.
The team are adept at creating everything from eye-catching visually engaging products that sit perfectly in retail situations to global transit solutions.
“An increasing number of customers are actively seeking ways in which they can make their packaging more sustainable and are approaching us to find solutions that remove other materials from their packaging wherever possible,” said Paul. “We work with them to guide them through all elements of the process to ensure products are protected, brands are represented in line with brand guidelines and that their packaging supports the company ethos in every way possible.”
