Manchester appoints new Managing Director
27 Feb 2020
Boxes and Packaging (Manchester) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Managing Director.
Paul Gavin assumes the role as Gary Hargreaves, who has been MD at the Manchester sites for 11 years, heads towards retirement in just a few weeks.
Paul has worked in the corrugated industry since 1989 after serving in the Royal Navy and since then has worked in several roles but in a senior capacity since 2002.
“I have always enjoyed the corrugated industry as the people are fantastic and I continue to enjoy working in it,” said Paul. “Our industry has passionate experts who want to help customers – from our largest customers who have their own packaging specialists to our mid-size and smaller customers who rely on our expertise to protect and present their products.”
Paul heads up the teams at both Manchester sites – Bolton and Bredbury – who are renowned for their point-of-sale innovation in addition to supporting customers with a range of packaging solutions.
“For many years, our industry seemed to struggle to project it’s ‘green’ image to the wider world and even though we know that our product is recyclable and recycled we didn’t market these simple facts well enough,” said Paul. “It’s great to see that the industry as a whole has got much better and the ‘Blue Planet’ emphasis on packaging has helped us promote the environmental benefits of corrugated to the wider world.
“I’m excited to be joining B&P as it has a superb reputation in the market place and an excellent focus on customers and staff development. The Manchester sites have an excellent team and desire to work hard for our customers. I look forward to leading the business into its next exciting phase of development.”
Stacey Austin Northern Regional Managing Director commented; “We offer Paul a warm welcome to our Manchester team and to the wider Boxes and Packaging group. It is the start of a new era as Gary retires and we look forward to the future, one where the business remains visionary and innovative.”
Away from the office Paul enjoys spending time with his wife, two grandchildren and three grown up children. And, he’s a Port Vale fan – now that’s something you don’t hear too often!
