From board to box

23 Sep 2019

Successful business partnerships are an intrinsic part of growth and prosperity across many business sectors and we are proud to have many that facilitate our everyday business operations.

One of the most critical is that which we have with our sister company, Board24. Part of the Logson Group Board24 opened its doors for business over 20 years ago, has a turnover of £150m and employs 350 people in its entirety.

It operates from three sites across the UK, its head office in Coalville, Preston and Larkhall in Scotland and is proud to a member of respected industry bodies including the Sheet Plant Association (SPA) and Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI).

Richard McBride, Managing Director Board24 commented; “We have robust relationships with all of the Boxes and Packaging sites across the UK and support them in their corrugated requirements. Together we keep the wheels of the corrugated packaging industry turning, placing the group as the largest independent packaging companies in the UK – an accolade of which we are extremely proud to play our part in.”

Innovative in its approach to corrugated as a raw material, Board 24, created its Lab Series a series of information sheets specifically designed to help customers understand how corrugated packaging can support their supply chain and business needs.

A series of eight information guides tackle several common issues from assessing board grades to the Box Compression Test and are designed to not only stimulate thought, but also increase understanding and awareness of the performance characteristics of corrugated board. In addition, cost reductions can be achieved and performance issues eliminated when a greater understanding of the qualities of corrugated board is acquired.

Lab Series guides customers and packaging specifiers through a pertinent range of ways in which they can conduct a packaging review or audit and provoke thought as to how Board24 could support changes to packaging specification to ensure maximum supply chain efficiencies are realised across all industry sectors which Board24 supports.

It is also committed to a programme of continuous improvement and investment to ensure industry leading product quality and service and in 2019 upgrades to Corrugator 3 and 4 have been made at its Preston site to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and the benefits that this was to bring came to fruition in August 2019 when a new output record was set by the K shift team who ran a massive 152,797 lineal meters with an average speed of 330 meters per minute.

Richard concluded; “We take immense pride in running efficient operations, creating a workplace where people enjoy being and flying the flag for the corrugated industry and sustainable packaging. Working with our sister companies across Boxes and Packaging allow us to complete the’ board to box’ cycle and help support so many customers achieve sustainable and recyclable packaging goals that meet consumer demands and responsible business operation targets.”
