Striving to Make It Safe

An early career in construction whetted the appetite of Mark Ryan, our recently appointed Group Health and Safety Manager, in the area which he chose as a career.
Three years at the sharp end of construction – helping to build the Dublin port tunnel close to where he grew up – he accepted a place at Nottingham Trent University where he studied a BSc in Health, Safety and Environment Management. From there, his career has taken him to varying positions and companies where he has gained experience in many sectors of the all-encompassing topic.
His first job after University was with CAT which was followed by a move to Severn Trent. This led to a Group role with Unipart Logistics until a post at Alliance Boots allowed him to move to a company where a more diverse range of skills and knowledge was required.
“It is this depth of knowledge and experience that makes Mark entirely suitable to the role with Boxes and Packaging and the Logson Group,” said Alex Kelly CEO Logson Group. “His tenacity and ambition will allow us to develop our practices all whilst keeping a clear target – to excel in our Health, Safety and Environmental policies.”
Mark has overall responsibility for Health, Safety and Environment across the group yet works closely with individual site Managing Directors and Safety Managers to ensure compliance continues along with a programme of continuous improvement.
“I am delighted to join the Boxes and Packaging and Logson teams; a forward-thinking company that is definitely going places,” said Mark. “This is fast moving environment and visiting the sites across the UK shows the groups commitment to all elements of Health, Safety and our working environment.”
“Every day is different and that is one of the things I like most about my role. There is so much positivity around this element of our business operations and I am confident I can play my part and make a tangible difference in the delivery of our vision and strategy across the group.”
Mark has several qualifications which equip him to carry out his role; including in Leadership, Train the Trainer and 6 Sigma Green Belt.
When he is not making the world of Boxes and Packaging a better place to be, he enjoys spending time with his young daughters and can often be found spoiling a nice walk by chasing a small white ball!
