Scottish Sites Set for Growth

09 Mar 2017

The first quarter of 2017 has been a time of change and investment for the Boxes and Packaging Group with the first quarter of the year seeing significant machinery investment and re-development as part of ongoing growth plans.

Dumbarton, one of its three Scottish sites, has enjoyed a major re-development to increase its production capabilities and meet customer expectations.

The capacity for manufacturing heavy duty boxes has been doubled due to the installation of a second Gopfert box maker along with a fully automatic pallet strapping line which has increased efficiencies and improved work flow around the factory. This links in with the relocation of smaller key machinery pieces from its Glasgow site and improved two colour printing capabilities due to the re-location of the Langston Printer-Slotter.

“The new ergonomic layout of the Dumbarton factory has assisted with a better flow of raw material and product around the factory to deliver time saving efficiencies,” said Managing Director Scott Alexander. “Businesses evolve, and as they do so their streamlined procedures often become diluted – a re-organisation and work flow study can pay dividends in production terms and the Dumbarton team are already reaping the benefits of their new factory layout.”

In addition, the office area has been re-decorated and all workstations reconfigured to give staff 30% more space from which to carry out their day to day tasks. A new multimedia training facility has been installed to assist with staff development and customer visits, and a new kitchen and canteen area further enhances the workplace for the entire team. New speed doors now work efficiently thereby retaining more heat from the newly installed factory heating system.

Group Operations Director David Brooks added; “Similar projects have been carried out at a number of our sites in recent years with all delivering a significant return on investment in terms of productivity and staff welfare.”
