Boxes and Packaging (Bristol) Install New Ink Kitchen

01 Sep 2016

In conjunction with Hi-tech Products, Boxes and Packaging (Bristol) has installed a new ink kitchen, allowing the team to mix inks on-site and manage ink usage efficiently.The Bristol site had been using a Hi-Tech ‘mini-blend’ manual ink system, but due to continued growth in its printed work and the increase in ink usage, it was time to look at upgrading the system to be managed more effectively.

The next step was to upgrade to a full automatic ink dispenser, having the dispenser system provides a number of benefits;

– reduction in stock level

– ink recycling

– improved dispense accuracy

– speed

– precision

– batch-to-batch consistency

– just-in-time production process

– right-first-time mixing

– cleaner, safer workplace

Prior to installation a meeting was conducted on site with Hi-Tech and the operating team at Bristol to discuss the site requirements in terms of space and the logistics of an installation with a time frame set out before the start of the works. The room was prepared, and installation took three days from start to finish. Furthermore, the simple touch screen user interface ensured the operators were soon mixing ink with ease.

Luke Chadbourne, Technical Support at Hi-Tech Products explains; “As a growing ink user, Boxes and Packaging Bristol already enjoyed the benefits of having an on-site ink station in the form of a Mini-Blend, but as this usage and range of colours increased, it was time to install an ink dispenser and begin to utilise the advantages they bring, such as increased accuracy and traceability, as well as the addition of ink recycling software that comes with an ink dispenser to help keep ink stocks to a minimum and allowing inks to be topped up to the correct amount for a new press run, as well as converting into other colours to fully maximise the cost savings available.”

Andy Clarke, Managing Director at Boxes and Packaging Bristol commented; “As our portfolio of products develops there has been an increase in printed work. Having the automatic ink formulation technology has provided a number of benefits to enable us to work more efficiently to meet customer requirements.”
