Local Charity Patron Takes To The Hills To Raise Funds
25 Jul 2014
Doncaster Managing Director, Stacey Austin, left behind the dizzy heights of the cardboard industry for the peaks of Northern England as he tackled his latest Coast-to-Coast bike ride for a local charity, of which he is patron.
It was the third time that Stacey had traversed the country on his bike but on this occasion he joined ‘The Crossing’ – a three day race from Whitehaven to Scarborough – covering 196 miles and climbing over 5,000 feet – equivalent to cycling up Snowdon five times!
“I’ve undertaken a handful of cross country challenges before but this was the toughest as it was against the clock,” said Stacey. “It was an amazing experience though and I was thrilled to finish 70th out of 370 competitors in a time of 20 hours and 2 minutes.”
Stacey exceeded his fund raising target of £500 achieving a total of almost £700 which will go towards the restoration and re-development of St John’s Hospice located within the Borough of Doncaster. He became a patron of the charity earlier this year just after he assumed his two year post as President at Doncaster Chamber of Commerce.
