BANGING THE DRUM FOR B AND P!

15 Jul 2013

The team at Doncaster have been raising money for charity once again and this time they took to the water in a mighty dragon boat competition!

Held on the picturesque lake in Doncaster, the team, known as ‘The Orange Dragons’ for the day, joined twenty six other businesses to raise money for CRY Cardiac Risk in the Young.

“When I heard about the event and mentioned it to the team we all agreed it sounded like a great way to raise money for a worthwhile charity,” said Stacey Austin, Managing Director of Boxes and Packaging (Doncaster). “And we weren’t disappointed, although we got a lot wetter than we thought despite us all managing to stay in the boat!”

The team which included Stacey Austin, Dave Wedgwood, Steve Taylor, Shelley Dodd and Chris Carr, who had to paddle a 30′ dragon boat along a 200m race course. They raised over £600 for charity and finished sixteenth, disappointingly not making it through to the semi finals.

“Dragon Boat Racing is definitely harder than it looks but I think it’s fair to say, what we lacked in speed and technique, we more than made up for in enthusiasm,” said Stacey. “Several members of our family and friends joined us to cheer us on, a picnic and a few coffees were enjoyed by everyone. We’ll be back next year, that’s for certain!”
