Commercial Scales Global Transit Pack

Case Study - Design Innovation

Commercial Scales Global Transit Pack

Brief:

  • To ensure safe transit of product across the globe
  • To remove the utilisation of foam inserts
  • To simplify design to minimise line side packing times

Design:

The pack was designed with a dual purpose - to eliminate foam from the existing design and to withstand global shipping of its weighing scales.

It was necessary for the pack to become environmentally friendly and fully recyclable and the client was also looking for cost saving benefits as well as robustness that had not been experienced with the foam and corrugated pack, resulting in costly and inconvenient returns.

The pack comprises of a two piece internal fitting and an external outer box - the fittings are delivered inside the erected case and are supplied fully assembled. Product information and branding is printed to the outer corrugated box.

Outcome:

Our pack eliminated the need for any auxiliary packaging materials that were not recyclable, such as foam and plastic.

Significant cost savings of over 22% have been delivered. This was facilitated by the redesign of the pack to include a corrugated fitting. Furthermore, storage on the packing line has been halved and packing times decreased resulting in positive outcomes for the client.

Deliveries are made on demand to customer requirements to minimise the need for onsite storage of packaging. This is an excellent example of Boxes and Packaging’s approach to creative, design led packaging solutions which can be applied to all market sectors.
