Meet the Designer – Richard from Birmingham

06 Mar 2019

This time we take a trip to Birmingham to meet Richard Oliver our designer at our Birmingham plant.

How long have you been with the company?
Just over 3 years.

If you could have anything to create a packaging solution for what would it be?
Anything that removes single use plastic.

What do you find most challenging in your job?
I would say that the most challenging thing is continually being creative/innovative in such a cost driven industry.

What was your favourite toy as a kid?
Probably Lego.

If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?
The power of being able to teleport anywhere in the world instantly, no traffic in the morning and free holidays…

What was your childhood nickname?
“Dickbob” Its wasn’t meant to be rude. People thought my middle name was Robert (it’s not its Michael). Anyway Richard-Robert became Dick-Bob and it just stuck.

Although there were some funny looks when my friends would shout it out to get my attention…

Who is your hero, and why?
Isambard Kingdom Brunel – he made a lot of cool stuff.

How would you spend one million pounds?
Probably pay off the mortgage and buy a holiday home somewhere.  I would also buy a Delorean DMC-12 (I know I’m a geek). The rest I would give to charity, probably a local animal sanctuary.

Name two things you consider yourself to be very good at?
Problem solving and making tea.

What is one of the things on your bucket list?
To live abroad for a few years.
